His Honour Geoffrey Rivlin QC
First as a barrister and Queen’s Counsel, prosecuting and defending in a number of prominent trials, then as a Judge and Senior Resident Judge at Southwark Crown Court, and then as Adviser to the Director of the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), Geoffrey Rivlin has gained a unique experience and insight in the fields of individual and corporate fraud and corruption.
In his role as Senior Resident Judge and Hon. Recorder of Westminster, he helped to develop Southwark Crown Court in London into the leading fraud/corruption court in England. He also sat as a Deputy High Court Judge and as an Additional Judge in the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division).
After retiring from the Bench, Geoffrey Rivlin was invited by the Director of the SFO to join the authority as his Special Adviser, to strengthen the oversight of casework strategy and decisions. He held this position for three years. During this time, he assisted with the authorship of the Code of Practice for Deferred Prosecution Agreements (DPAs).
In addition to this position, Geoffrey Rivlin was appointed a judicial Member of the Investigatory Powers Tribunal. More recently, he has worked as a Consultant both to the Commonwealth Secretariat and the European Council.
Geoffrey Rivlin’s role at RSL is to offer specialist strategic advice to corporations facing investigation into alleged wrongdoing, in relation (where appropriate) to positioning them so as to secure civil outcomes, DPAs or plea agreements. Quite separately, where circumstances allow, he will consider appointment, as an Independent Compliance Reviewer or Independent Compliance Monitor.
